The Low Down
Aidan Gillen plays an aimless twenty-something who refuses to grow up, even after he starts dating a responsible estate agent, in Jamie Thraves’ slacker romance.
Director: Jamie Thraves
Overview
In one of his earliest lead roles, Aidan Gillen plays an aimless twenty-something who refuses to grow up, even after he starts dating a responsible estate agent, in Jamie Thraves’ slacker romance.
Thraves made his name in music videos and short films before mounting his debut feature, an accomplished and refreshing romantic comedy with a breezy and distinctive atmosphere, which absorbs European art-house and US indie influences to present a kind of British forerunner to mumblecore. With its glorification of the mundane detail of a pre-gentrification Hackney, The Low Down has also become an unwitting chronicle of one of London’s most rapidly evolving regions of recent years.
