6. Using BFI Player

6.1 For general advice on using BFI Player, see our Help page.

6.2 General service: This section covers terms relevant across the whole service, including free films; and terms relevant for both paid-for parts of the service - subscription and rentals. See section 7 for subscription-only terms, and section 8 for rentals-only terms.

6.3 Account registration: Only one account can be registered per email address.

6.4 Equipment needed: To play films on the service, you must have internet access and a BFI Player compatible device, with adequate internet download speeds (see Help).

6.5 Payment method: To rent films or take out a subscription on the service, you must provide us with a current, valid, accepted payment card ('your payment method'), which may be updated by your bank as it expires.
When you enter or update a payment method and carry out a transaction with it, this payment method will become your new payment method for rentals and the payment method if you take out a subscription.
You can store only one payment method at a time on BFI Player, and you authorise us to continue billing the payment method - it may be updated by your bank as it expires - and you remain responsible for any uncollected amounts.

6.6 Changes to prices: We may change the prices of our rental films and subscription service from time to time; however, any price changes will apply to you no earlier than 30 days following email notice to you.

6.7 Changes to film payment types: We may move films between rentals and subscription, from time to time, based on rights agreements with our licensors; however, your original payment type (rental or subscription) will be honoured - you will not be charged more if this happens.

6.8 Viewing films: You can view BFI Player films only in the UK.
BFI Player, and any content viewed through the service, are for your personal and non-commercial use only.
When you rent films or take out a subscription, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, licence to access BFI Player and view films on a streaming-only basis.
Except for the foregoing limited licence, no right, title or interest shall be transferred to you. You agree not to use the service for public performances.
The number of devices on which you may watch rental and subscription films is limited to four, and two of those devices only can be swapped within any six month period. You may watch films only on a single device at any one time.

6.9 Age restrictions: You must be 16 years of age to hold a BFI Player account. Minors may only use the service under the supervision of an adult.

6.10 Restrictions: You agree to use BFI Player, including all associated features and functionalities, in accordance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations, or other restrictions on use of the service or content.
You agree not to archive, download, reproduce, distribute, modify, display, perform, publish, license, create derivative works from, offer for sale, or use (except as explicitly authorised in these Terms of Use) content and information contained on or obtained from or through BFI Player.
You also agree not to: circumvent, remove, alter, deactivate, degrade or thwart any of the content protections in BFI Player; use any robot, spider, scraper or other automated means to access BFI Player; decompile, reverse engineer or disassemble any software or other products or processes accessible through BFI Player; insert any code or product or manipulate the content of BFI Player in any way; or, use any data mining, data gathering or extraction method.
In addition, you agree not to upload, post, e-mail or otherwise send or transmit any material designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment associated with the BFI Player service, including any software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs.
We may terminate or restrict your use of our service if you violate these Terms or are engaged in illegal or fraudulent use of the service.

7. Using BFI Player subscription

7.1 Also see section 7 for overall Terms.

7.2 Subscription details: You can find specific details regarding your BFI Player subscription - such as dates and payments made - by visiting our website, signing in and clicking on the Account link on the top navigation bar.

7.3 Free Trials: Your BFI Player subscription may start with a free trial. The free trial period of your subscription lasts for 14 days, or as otherwise specified during sign-up, and is intended to allow new members to try the service. You will be notified when signing-up to subscription whether you are eligible for a free trial.

7.4 Subscription payments: We will automatically bill your payment method for your monthly subscription fee at the end of the free trial period, unless you cancel your subscription prior to the end of the free trial period.
The fee for subscription will be billed every month, to your payment method, on the calendar day corresponding to the commencement of your paid subscription.
Your BFI Player subscription will continue until terminated. Unless you cancel your subscription before your monthly renewal date, you authorise us to charge your next month’s subscription fee to your payment method. You authorise us to continue billing the payment method, as it may be updated by your bank as it expires.
If a payment is not successfully settled, due to expiration, insufficient funds, or otherwise, and you do not change your payment method or cancel your account by the end of the billing cycle, we will suspend your access to subscription. This may result in a change to your payment billing dates, and you remain responsible for any uncollected amounts.

7.5 Subscription cancellation: You can cancel your subscription at any time, and will continue to have access to subscription films through to the end of your monthly billing period.
We do not provide refunds or credits for any partial-month subscription periods or unwatched films.
To cancel, go to your Account / Subscription tab on BFI Player’s top navigation bar, and follow the instructions for cancellation.

7.6: Subscription content: The content available in Subscription is continually updated but is a smaller subset of all content available on BFI Player.

8. Renting BFI Player films

8.1 Also see section 7 for overall Terms.

8.2 Availability periods: Once you have purchased a rental film, you have 30 days to watch it, and 48 hours to finish watching it after pressing play. After those periods have elapsed, and you have not watched a complete film, you will need to rent again to watch the film.
We do not provide refunds or credits for any unwatched films.

8.3 BFI member discount: You can get BFI member discount of 15% discount on all rentals, if you enter a valid membership number and your registered postcode on BFI Player (in uppercase, with a space between the two parts, like: W1T 1LN) .
You can enter your number and registered postcode when you sign up for an account, via Account / Profile on BFI Player’s top navigation bar, or when you rent a film.
If your membership number expires, this will be removed from BFI Player within 48 hours, and you will no longer receive the 15% discount on rentals.
You can use your BFI membership number against one BFI Player account only.

8.4 Rentals content: The content available in Rentals is continually updated but is a smaller subset of all content available on BFI Player.

9. Hyperlinks and third party sites

9.1 The service may contain hyperlinks or references to external third party websites. Any such hyperlinks or reference is provided for your convenience only. We have no control over third party websites and accept no responsibility for any content, material or information contained in them.

10.4 We do not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury arising from our negligence, for any fraudulent misrepresentation made by us on the service or for any other statutory rights which are not capable of being excluded.

11. Indemnity

11.1 If you are in breach of any of these Terms, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless in respect of any costs, expenses, claims, proceedings, actions, losses, damages or liabilities incurred by us in relation to or arising from such a breach.

12. General

12.1 We reserve the right to vary these Terms from time to time without notifying you. By continuing to use and access the service you agree to be bound by any variation made by us. It is your responsibility to check these Terms of use from time to time to verify such variations.
