Coyote vs. Acme

PG rating

Long-suffering, luckless Wile E Coyote takes ACME to court in this Looney Tunes live-action underdog drama starring Will Forte and John Cena.

In his relentless pursuit of Road Runner (beep beep), Wile E Coyote has suffered infinite misfires from the faulty gadgets he has bought from the ACME Corporation. So when he sees an opportunity to take them on in court, he teams up with small-time personal injury lawyer Avery (a hangdog Will Forte). Dodging cartoon anvils and TNT explosives, they uncover a Toon conspiracy going back decades.

Inspired by a 1990 article that Ian Frazier wrote for The New Yorker, this half-animated, half-live action movie was intended for release a few years ago, before Warner Bros. famously shelved it as a tax write-off. An online campaign by its fans and creators kickstarted its eventual release – a people vs the corp story that nods to the plot. This is also a very fun film that pays homage to film history - the physical comedy of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, the creative mash-up of fellow cartoon/live-action films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam – and there are film references and jokes peppered throughout.
