Welsh National Eisteddfod

Ceremonial procession at the 1927 Eisteddfod captured on film, as Holyhead hosts the Welsh bardic festival

Visit the famous Welsh bardic festival with this Topical Budget newsreel. The Eisteddfod celebrates Welsh literature, music and performance and is held in a different town every year. In 1927, Holyhead on the isle of Angelsey played host. Although damage to the film stock has obscured the title card, this newsreel is otherwise well-preserved and features the traditional procession in druidic dress behind the symbolic Horn of Plenty, and an address by the Archdruid Howell Elvet Lewis.
