The Proclamation

Civic dignitaries and Letchworth locals stand elbow to elbow at a ceremony to mark the Proclamation of Queen Elizabeth II's Accession to the Throne.

In the United Kingdom, Queen Elizabeth II was formally proclaimed sovereign in February 1952. To mark the occasion, Letchworth Garden City hold their own ceremony outside the Urban District Council offices. Made by the Letchworth Film Society for the Festival Committee and sponsored by Letchworth Urban District Council, the film’s opening title credit gives 1951 as the year of the event, however, this should read 1952.
