Shrewsbury Corporation Film No. 3

Marching bands and acrobats celebrate the Coronation of King George VI at an event in Shrewsbury.

Beginning with a football match (complete with half time pints) this compilation film includes the celebrations in Shrewsbury to mark both the 1937 and the 1953 coronations. Highlights of the earlier event are the smartly dressed kazoo bands marching in time and a display of impressive acrobatics in Quarry Park (not to mention the 'gaily' decorated streets). In 1953 the bunting was out again but the entertainment was much more sedate: folk dancing.
