Overview

The white Portland stone on the church of Our Lady of Lourdes lends a Mediterranean air to this Blackpool street. We see Mary Fleming outside the church, and inside, praying. There are also general views of the interior and exterior of this striking building. Though it suffers from a camera fault, this amateur film is a valuable record of the building in its days as a functioning church.

Built between 1955 and 1957, the church was designed by Francis Xavier Velarde, who trained at the Liverpool School of Architecture. Now deconsecrated, it has been given a Grade II* listing by English Heritage.
