        Overview

City Planning Officer for Leicester, Konrad Smigielski, talks to camera about his ideas for modernising what was once the largest open air market in Europe (until an ugly roof was installed in the 1930s). Market traders provide lively criticism of the plans but, unfortunately, their views on Smigielski's more radical idea for a city mono-rail are not included here. Professor Jack Simmons of the University of Leicester is on hand to give the historian's view.
