Guinness - April Fool

A touch of talking toucan trouble leads to the premature pouring of stout support in this 80s Guinness ad.

Overview

Guinness advertising has used the toucan in a variety of ways since the 1930s. This modern (for the 1980s) take is a classic, ticking off key marketing points for the sponsor that the drink could be enjoyed at home and by women. That it wraps all these sales points up in a concise narrative with a healthy dose of humour is exactly what a good ad agency and production team can bring to a brief.

Also on the Player is preparatory “animatic” of this commercial, further evidence of the preparation that goes into such productions.
