Sparkling TV ad, as British cinema’s New Wave reaches TV advertising via theatre director Joan Littlewood.
Kitchen sink drama and advertising might not seem natural bedfellows, but this ad series billed itself as the first that “dares to present human beings as human beings”. It was directed by the ‘Mother of Modern Theatre’ Joan Littlewood, and starred Avis Bunnage, one of her Theatre Workshop regulars. Realist or not, the resulting ads are immensely charming.
