Overview

A hedonistic cine club crew from the Newcastle ACA luxuriate in the dunes at Warkworth between the wars. Cameras roll irresistibly on the club's basking belles and a jokey, impromptu costume parade. Both men and women show off their stripy, knitted swimsuits, soon soggy after a splash in the sea to cool down.

Up to World War Two, there were regular social trips for members of the Newcastle & District Amateur Cinematographers Association (ACA), one of the oldest cine clubs in Britain, formed in 1927 and now a sole survivor from the first five pioneer clubs. Amongst this fun-seeking group at Warkworth, Doris Graham (indulging in two ice creams for the camera) was a talented amateur producer and actress who starred as the prim secretary in the club's 1939 production, Out of the Drum, also available on BFI Player.
