Overview
Patriotism was a matter of honour for British newsreels during WWI and Topical Budget was no exception, favouring upbeat stories which would do the nation proud. In this item, a London-based firm 'do their bit' for the war effort, offering free instruction on the inner workings of the motorcar to a group of captivated new servicemen.
In 1914 Britain still relied heavily on horse power, and the young men seen peering over the car's engine in this film would very likely never have driven a car before.
