Overview

Himself no stranger to the wrath of Iran’s theocratic regime, director Rasoulof filmed The Seed of the Sacred Fig in secret over 70 days in Iran, before smuggling the footage to Germany and himself escaping the country via a perilous, 28-day foot journey. The resulting film is a masterpiece of mounting tension, beginning as an intense psychological drama before developing into a powerful political thriller; a passionate and fearless cri de cœur.
