Overview

Six-year-old Moonee lives with her struggling mum Halley in a candy-floss-coloured motel near Disney World, Orlando. Their budget home is no resort, but Moonee turns it into a playground – hustling change for ice creams, causing mischief, and roaming free with friends – while kind-hearted motel manager Bobby tries to protect them from the harsh realities beyond their pastel world.

Sean Baker’s magical, magnificent and madcap The Florida Project unfolds against the backdrop of a failing American economy. Told through a child’s-eye view, it’s a marvellous world of play and possibility – though adult viewers will quickly sense what’s coming for Halley and Moonee. This ingenious modern classic explores childhood innocence and social precarity, anchored by Willem Dafoe’s exceptional, Oscar-nominated performance.
