A Most Wanted Man
In one of his final roles, Philip Seymour Hoffman excels as a German spy attempting to recruit Islamic informants, in Anton Corbijn’s sophisticated John le Carré adaptation.
Thriller 2014 122 mins
Director: Anton Corbijn
Overview
In one of his final roles, Philip Seymour Hoffman plays Günther Bachmann, a German spy used to working his own way, increasingly wary of unhelpful interventions from American intelligence colleagues. His latest project is the turning of Issa Karpov, a Chechen immigrant whom he hopes will help incriminate a notable Arab philanthropist suspected of funding al-Qaeda. As Bachmann’s plan becomes ever more intricate it attracts the attentions of rival security experts with competing agendas.
Acclaimed director Anton Corbijn (Control) lends style to John le Carré’s sophisticated spy story, a dramatic and intricate tale that weaves in Chechen terrorists, Russian gangsters and nefarious bankers to craft a chilling vision of inviolable inter-connected criminality.
