Teens

The sweet pains and explosive joys of youth are celebrated in our selection of films about those in-between years.
Teenagers are cinema’s most loyal customers, and this eclectic collection shows the lives of adolescents from around the globe. Some are funny – check out the brave teens in Attack the Block (2011) or the gay boy trying to fit in at high school in the riotous GBF (2013). Some offer a grittier representation – see the ultraviolent Heli (2013) or the sad isolation of the title character in Shell (2012). Developing sexuality is represented in a number of ways – symbolically in The Company of Wolves (1984), graphically in Blue is the Warmest Colour (2013), through teenage angst in Totally F***ed Up (1993) and in the most bizarre way possible in the darkly comic Dogtooth (2009). Some teens have evil on their mind (We Need to Talk about Kevin), while others just want to have fun (Fast Girls). Whatever type of teenager you were, are or will be, this collection is sure to strike a nerve.
