The Golden Madonna
When she inherits an Italian palazzo, a young woman takes on more than she bargained for
Drama 1949 88 mins
Director: Ladislao Vajda
Overview
This melodrama starring Phyllis Calvert disappeared from view after its release and was on the BFI’s 'Most Wanted' list until it turned up in the Cohen Media collection. Calvert also co-produced the film, which was shot largely in southern Italy, the locations earning praise from critics. With a stand-out Italian cast, the film holds up well as a romance set against the backdrop of postwar Capri and Naples.
