Sicario
Emily Blunt plays the FBI agent enlisted for a special operation against Mexican cartels, in this pulsatingly tense thriller from Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Prisoners).
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Overview
Emily Blunt plays the FBI agent forced to unlearn everything she knows after being enlisted for a special operation against Mexican cartels. As she delves further into an impenetrable and unforgiving world she has to rely on the tutelage of Alejandro (Benicio del Toro), a shadowy ‘consultant’ whose links to the cartels are perilously opaque.
With Blunt, Del Toro and Josh Brolin constituting a top tier cast, Sicario may appear like a mainstream thriller, but acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Enemy, Prisoners) fashions something far beyond the standard Hollywood treatment. Constructed around a handful of elongated, tightly wound set-pieces, Sicario is a prolonged and pulsating study in pure tension. Its nomination for the Palme d’Or alongside Oscar® and Bafta nods testify to a stunning technical accomplishment that’s been acclaimed as one of the best films of 2015.
