Mons

Arrival of the British Army in France

Documentary 1926 110 mins Silent

Director: Walter Summers

Overview

Stirring reconstruction of the British Army's arrival in France and the desperate retreat of exhausted troops from Mons.

This stirring staging of the British Army's desperate retreat from Mons in 1914 makes it easy to see why British Instructional's battle reconstruction films were so popular with the public in the decade after WWI. They showed the places and people involved in these momentous events that family, friends and participants had been unable to see at the time. Where they couldn't show real veterans or actual locations, these were cleverly re-staged to present specific key incidents.
