Exiled Swedish-Egyptian filmmaker Tarik Saleh’s political thriller about a movie star coerced into taking on the most dangerous role of his life.

George Fahmy (played by Saleh’s regular collaborator, Fares Fares) is a movie star living a life of ease, one of unchallenging roles, fawning fans and young mistresses. But with his career and family sinisterly and increasingly threatened, he finds himself taking on the most dangerous role of his life in a government-sponsored film about Egyptian President el-Sisi.

Nominated for a Palme d’Or, this chilling portrait of propaganda, entrapment and deceit under el-Sisi's rule marks the final chapter of Saleh’s Cairo trilogy, following 2017’s The Nile Hilton Incident and 2022’s Cairo Conspiracy (both also available to rent on BFI Player).
