Mr Amos Brown, Pig Keeper
Hand reared and hand fed – was there ever a happier herd of pigs in the whole of Wales?
From the collection of:

Overview
Bearded, hatted Mr Brown feeds pigs and piglets in a country lane. There’s a bucket on his arm, but his charges are only fed from this once they’ve been thrown chunks of bread from the loaf in his hand. There are more animals up the lane, and another man – but Amos Brown is the focus here, lovingly portrayed giving care, not merely dispensing fodder, to his healthy, happy-looking herd.
The provenance of this film suggests that its location is Abercynon, but we would be delighted to receive any information about its subject, Amos Brown – does anyone in the Abercynon area remember him? The filmmaker, Evan Owen Jones (1905-88), was born and brought up in Prospect House, North Street, Abercynon, to parents who hailed from Tudweiliog on the Llŷn peninsula. He studied art at the Slade School of Art and taught the subject at Aberpennar Grammar School, Pontllanfraith High School and Llandrindod College. He passed his last years at Tan y Bryn, Stad St Tudwal, Mynytho, Gwynedd.
