Overview
Here, community sports go beyond the parochial (see the Welsh Academicals v New Zealand XV) and the expected (not only running, boxing and discus-throwing, but zip-wiring and inventive ways with motorcycles). And what citizens would feel unsafe with these tireless wardens and home guard to defend them? VE Day rewards the spirit of Abercynon with a good street party and a cracking bonfire.
The filmmaker, Evan Owen Jones (1905-88), was born and brought up in Prospect House, North Street, Abercynon, to parents who hailed from Tudweiliog on the Llŷn peninsula. He studied art at the Slade School of Art and taught the subject at Aberpennar Grammar School, Pontllanfraith High School and Llandrindod College. He passed his last years at Mynytho, Gwynedd.
