Beautifully crafted amateur film, in colour and with sound of the return of the herring drifters to the quayside at Great Yarmouth.
When the holiday season is coming to a close at Great Yarmouth, another season is just beginning. Amateur filmmaker Mr Taberham recorded the herring drifters as they return to the quayside, a familiar sight for locals. After the boats have been properly secured, the job of unloading begins. At one time, Scottish fisher girls would be waiting to gut and prepare the fish in the open air. However, by the 1950s, the boxes are loaded onto the waiting lorries ready for distribution.
The filmmaker, Mr Taberham, a Norfolk man, was a member of the Institute of Amateur Cinematographers. Shooting on both Standard 8mm and Super 8 film, he recorded local events and holidays abroad. He made films under the guise of Crystal Ball Productions and Circle 8 Productions. Many of his films have a recorded commentary and music added to the picture.
