National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales preserves and celebrates the sound and moving image heritage of Wales, making it accessible to a wide range of users for enjoyment and learning. Its film collection reflects every aspect of the nation’s social, cultural and working life across the 20th century, giving a fascinating insight into Welsh filmmaking, both amateur and professional.

Overview
Reginald George Iles, a founder member of The South Wales and Monmouthshire Agricultural and Horse Shows Association, records the 1951 Royal Welsh Show on film, commencing with the VIP inauguration and African visitors. The best of cattle, horse and sheep breeds are awarded trophies and boys demonstrate keep-fit exercises.
The title on this film is a little confusing! The Royal Welsh Show, as the National Eisteddfod still does, changed location each year after being based in Aberystwyth from its commencement in 1904 until 1910. It was held in Llandrindod in 1951 but from 1963 onwards it has had a permanent home in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells.
