A Devon Ruby bull on a family farm is weighed and measured
A Ruby Red Devon bull appears rather placid as he is weighed and measured on the farm in North Devon. For those watching in black and white, the bull is a Ruby distinguishable in colour by its deep auburn coat. Originally from North Devon, the breed is famous for its high quality beef. The South Devon was developed more recently and is a lighter more sandy colour and there are also crossbreeds.
Red Rubies are prized for their beef and bulls are used for stud. They are also prominent prizewinners in the West Country appearing at agricultural shows in the many different categories, young to senior. One bull named Yeoman Ferdinand or Freddie to his friends is a Ruby and holds the record of 20 championship wins.
