Overview
It's August and it's show time! First up is Rumney Horse Show Society's Show where there is sack racing with a horse in tow. Then it's the Vale of Glamorgan Agricultural Show, offering sewing competitions for men and women, and lastly Usk Farmers' Club Show with jumpers and hunters in the ring. There is also a family trip to the zoo in Bristol, the film-maker's home town, where children are seen riding on an elephant.
Reginald George Iles, who worked in Imperial Tobacco's Bonus Department in Cardiff, was a founder member of the South Wales and Monmouthshire Agricultural and Horse Shows Association and would film the area's summer shows for winter screenings. His two daughters can be seen on horseback in this film (the eldest daughter's trophy falls to the ground when her horse takes fright during the prize-giving) and, as adults, they both became involved in breeding horses.
