The Anderton Boat Lift - the "queerest lift of all" - transfers boats from the River Weaver to the Trent and Mersey Canal.
Witness the mighty engineering feat that is the Anderton Boat Lift in graceful action, lifting a canal boat between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal. Designed by civil engineer Edwin Clark and built in 1875, the lift was in use for more than a century before closing in 1983. After extensive renovation it re-opened in 2002 as an operational tourist attraction.
