Birchington, August 1932 Purkiss Family Film No.4

Amateur film of tennis and cricket in a Kentish family garden, plus cricket at Canterbury's St Lawrence Ground.

Amateur film 1932 11 mins Silent

Overview

The sporty Purkiss family enjoy a spot of cricket and tennis in their garden in Birchington, Kent, in the glorious summer sunshine. They decamp to the beach - perhaps nearby Minnis Bay - for a dip, and then it's over to the experts for some cricket at Canterbury's St Lawrence Ground. The stands are packed for Cricket Week, and we're treated to close-ups of cheery players taking to the pitch, as well as panoramic shots from the boundary showing Kent batting against Glamorgan.
