Picnickers in punts, ‘bumpers’ and bubbly. 1951 ‘May Week’ festivities for students of the University of Cambridge, including a performance by the Kings College Choristers.
The traditions of ‘May Week’ including the May Bumps - boat races along the River Cam, with undergraduate picnickers lining the riverbank to cheer the crews on. Kings College Choir join the outdoor festivities replacing the Chapel with punts on the river. ‘May Week’, which, since the year 1882 actually occurs in June, is a time for great celebration following year-end exams.
