Cup Tie Final : Liverpool V. Burnley 1914
King George V attends the FA Cup Final, the last to be played at Crystal Palace.
Overview
There's some nice high-angle photography in this newsreel item, from the opening following King George V's car through Crystal Palace Park to sweeping panoramic shots of the match action - with both goalkeepers in shot - and the crowd of over 72,000. Burnley (in light sleeves) and Liverpool were both making their Cup Final debuts. The presentation of the cup to victorious Burnley (who won 1-0) is obscured by waving hats.
Aside from the football, the 1914 Cup Final was notable as the first attended by a reigning monarch and the last to be held at Crystal Palace, where most Cup Finals had been held since 1895. 1915's final was held at Manchester's Old Trafford - after which the tournament was suspended for the duration of WWI.
