Up with the lark for a shift with Westminster's dustmen.
"Being a dustman is not a man's job. It's a he-man's job": so begins this report of the workers of Westminster's Public Cleansing and Transport Dept. Reporter Michael Ingrams joins a team of dustmen on their rounds. Working alongside the dustmen, he observes the different techniques of each team, and talks to the men about their jobs. It's a detailed and very respectful insight into work that is barely noticed by the public but without which "London would be paralysed within days".
Billed as "a personal view of the world we live in", Look In was a short, early-evening topical programme looking at 'real' people, made by the London-region broadcaster Rediffusion for the ITV network. Presenter Michael Ingram made a career of documenting ordinary lives for TV, and had a gift for drawing compelling stories from his subjects.
