The Devil sends Don Juan to seduce a vicar’s daughter (Bergman collaborator, Bibi Andersson) before her wedding day.
Satan is suffering from a stye in his eye and he believes there is a cure: seducing a young vicar’s daughter, Britt-Marie, who is preparing for her wedding. He orders Don Juan, the legendary womanizer, to head for Earth and tempt her into bed, thus scoring a point for immorality. But it seems that Don Juan may have met his match.
Grappling with themes of morality and sin, Bergman was reluctant to direct a comedy, but had agreed to this one to persuade the production company to fund drama-horror The Virgin Spring.
