His Home Town
Author Jerome K. Jerome, one of Walsall's most famous sons, returns home for what may have been his last screen appearance.
Overview
Jerome K. Jerome, much-loved author of the comic classic 'Three Men in a Boat', returns to his birthplace of Walsall to receive the freedom of the town in this newsreel story. His visit also saw a plaque placed on the house in which he was born: a Grade II listed building on Bradford Street that once housed a museum in his honour and maintains links with legacy. This may well have been his last trip home: a few months after this was filmed Jerome suffered a stroke and died shortly after in Northampton.
