Overview
This darkly humorous tale of a young Hong Kong family in 60s Britain captures the sweet hopes and sour experiences of migration. Adapted from Timothy Mo's Booker-shortlisted novel by Ian McKewan, it was directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings). After struggling in London, Chen and Lily open a successful take away business. But just as they are settling into their new community, Chen's gambling debts and the triad underworld catch up with them...
