A delightful day out by the sea gets pulses racing in this charming charity appeal film.
Proof of just how invigorating sea air can be, this film shows a sprightly over-60s group indulging in the gaudy pleasures of Brighton seafront. A sedate sing-along gives way to racier pursuits, as the folks giggle at naughty postcards, get their ankles wet, and try out the Palace Pier attractions along with the best of them. There's just time for jellied eels before the coach home.
This appeal was sponsored by the British Red Cross Society and intended to promote the varied nature of the charity's activities, which included social care for the elderly as well as nursing and war aid. Curiously, the film's introduction is clearly shot in Scarborough (with its distinctive castle keep overlooking South Bay), not Brighton. There are also fleeting scenes of the society's Ealing headquarters, before the trip gets underway.
