Overview
Disabled people in the Torbay Chalet Hotel in Marldon near Paignton are enjoying group exercise in the hall. Set in 17 acres, the holiday camp could accommodate up to 500 guests and included a hotel and chalet park with common facilities including a hall for entertaining. Group entertainment and nightly cabarets during the summer season were part of the fortnightly deal and accessibility accommodations were offered at this resort.
The Torbay Chalet Hotel was owned by Godfrey Davis in the sixties and was sold to Pontins in 1984. It closed in 1995 and was redeveloped into housing at Brockhurst Park on the edge of the village Marldon. The holiday park was situated two miles inland from Torbay in Devon's South Hams. Named after the French Riviera, the English Riviera has been popular with holidaymakers since Victorian times where the mild climate, exotic palms and a 22-mile coastline of beaches and coves with Torquay's Torre Abbey Sands at its heart, attract many visitors. The three towns of Paignton, Brixham and Torquay make up the English Riviera and offer attractions on and off the water including a Global Geopark.
