The Lassie and Her Dog

A pet dog submits to his mistress’s beautifying ministrations

A young girl cleans and spruces her slightly reluctant pet pooch in this silent short, which plays on the reliable sentimental draw of children and animals. The puppy is remarkably forbearing, even when being manhandled by its ears. The film ends with a posed close-up of the two stars, flanked by another pair of more mature dogs - a tableau that is strikingly like another Victorian film, Me and My Two Friends (1898).
