Southampton Docks

A fine British Transport Films documentary going behind the scenes at one of our busiest ports.

Documentary 1964 24 mins Silent

Overview

This engaging documentary goes behind the scenes of one of Britain’s busiest cargo ports. The film was directed by documentary film movement veteran John Taylor, freelancing with the ever reliable British Transport Films.

Although best known for its railway films, BTF took jobs from across public transport, in this case from the Docks Board. Although not among the unit’s many masterpieces, it’s a more than competent piece of filmmaking with an engrossing story to tell.
