Second Test at Lord's

England battered by Bardsley in the second Test against Australia at Lord's

Non-Fiction 1926 1 mins Silent

Rain at Trent Bridge had ruined the first Test of the 1926 series, leaving both teams and spectators keener than ever for the action to get going. The quality of this footage is limited by some damage to the film stock, as well as the less-than-ideal camera positions - indicating that Topical Budget was not the official newsreel. But we can still marvel at a standout performance by Warren Bardsley, on his way to 193 not out. At the time this was a record at Lord's for an Australian in a Test Match, helping to set a respectable target for England.

England would hit back with some superb batting of their own, including 119 by Jack Hobbs and 127 by Elias Henry 'Patsy' Hendren. With such high scores it was inevitable that the match would end in a draw.
