Schools for Moslems
A visit to Darul Uloom School in South Lancashire, the UK's first Muslim school
Overview
Topical religious series Credo visits Darul Uloom School in South Lancashire, the UK's first Muslim school, established in 1973 to meet growing demand among Muslim parents. The independent school, now known as Darul Uloom Al Arabiya Al Islamiya or Darul Uloom Bury, is still running today in Holcombe, near Bury. It was the first of several schools and madrassas set up in the UK by the Indian Islamic scholar Sheikh Yusuf Motala.
Credo, produced by London Weekend Television and transmitted early on Sunday evenings, was a cornerstone of ITV's religious programming in the early 1980s.
