Redditch Carnival 1951

With much bowing and curtseying the new carnival queen of Redditch takes her place on what appears to be a giant wedding cake.

Thirteen years before it was designated a new town Redditch was a small Midlands settlement with a proud industrial heritage. The 1951 carnival reflects that civic pride with the crowning of the carnival queen who, together with her attendants, is draped in miles of satin. They take their place in the parade alongside reminders of that industry and a display from local motorcycle manufacturing giants Royal Enfield.
