Nottingham Children Welcome the King and Queen
Pageantry, splendour and cheering kids greet King George V and Queen Mary in Nottingham, days before another royal visit changed the world.
Overview
King George V's visit to Nottingham on 25th June 1914 was the lead story for this edition of Gaumont Graphic's bi-weekly newsreel, released four days later. In world news, though, that week was destined to be remembered for another royal visit: Archduke Franz Ferdinand's fateful sojourn in Sarajevo on 28th June. The shock of Ferdinand's assassination would soon plunge Europe into war.
