The Media Archive for Central England is the public screen archive for the East and West Midlands. An independent charity and company based at the University of Lincoln, MACE acquires, catalogues, preserves and makes widely available moving image materials that inform our understanding of the diverse cultures and histories of communities between the Lincolnshire coast and the Welsh border.

Decades before social media groups reported on local goings-on those wishing to read about stories too small for the regional papers relied on the community press. These local rags campaigned, reported and flourished as this report shows. From the community papers of Harborne and Blaby to the campaigning agenda of Nottingham Voice and Birmingham Broadside, Peter Plant finds out that the community voice is alive and well in 1978.
