Northampton District Health Authority

The newly established health authority explains to its members the effects of a recent restructure.

Documentary 1981 36 mins

Overview

In 1982 the UK’s 90 Area Health Authorities were abolished and replaced with 192 District Health Authorities. The Northamptonshire authority produced a series of films to explain the restructure to new and existing staff, of which this is the first film. It focuses on detailing the new tiers of responsibility, changes to process and new management structures that staff should familiarise themselves with.

At thirty minutes in length, and accomplished with limited production techniques, the film will be of more interest to those with a local interest, but it does also present an interesting snapshot of the effects of the NHS’ numerous reorganisations. This government film is a public record, preserved and presented by the BFI National Archive on behalf of The National Archives, home to more than 1,000 years of British history.
