        Overview

In 1955, Frank Barnitt, a member of the Institute of Amateur Cinematographers, took along his 16mm camera and a roll of colour film, to the harbour at Lowestoft to record the flurry of activity as the fishermen work quickly, unloading the trawlers and sorting their catch. At this time, Lowestoft’s fishing industry was thriving. Seagulls hang about, as the fish are expertly gutted and filleted, and fishermen mend nets ready for another day.
