Sea Harvest
Finely photographed documentary about the Lowestoft herring industry.
Overview
This finely photographed documentary about the herring industry operating from Lowestoft includes sequences shot on board drifters and dockside scenes. The fishing industry inspired numerous non-fiction films, and the little-known Sea Harvest makes a fascinating companion piece to John Grierson’s very famous Drifters (1929).
Unlike Drifters, it was produced in the commercial film industry rather than public service; it’s unpretentious but graced with evocative camerawork.
