Young ladies take to the tennis courts at Weybridge Junior Championships

Non-Fiction 1922 1 mins Silent

Overview

It's probably fair to suggest that quite a few of the young female tennis players taking to the courts for the Junior Championships at Weybridge in 1922 were hoping to emulate the great Suzanne Lenglen. Earlier in the year, the French superstar had won her fourth consecutive Wimbledon title. The Topical Budget newsreel cameraman has beautifully captured the idyllic setting, with boys and girls resting leisurely by the side of the courts and a few scattered spectators (perhaps parents) watching intently as the young athletes do battle.
