Family life in colonial India - baby Georgina with her British mother and Chinese amah, possibly in Calcutta
Overview
Intimate images of family life among the British in India. Georgina, the baby girl who is the main focus of this film, was born in Shanghai in 1939. Her father, Archie Lyle, worked for the Mercantile Bank of India. Her family fled Shanghai for India soon afterwards, with her Chinese amah (or nanny), living first in Calcutta, later in Simla.
Georgina later gave her family films to the BFI National Archive.
