Homeland Holidays
Affordable holidays for the working classes around the UK.
Overview
Working people around the UK enjoy "holidays without a care" thanks to the Workers' Travel Association. There's a range of fun activities on offer and plenty of time to relax in the seaside village of Heacham, Norfolk. In the Peak District, near Hope in Derbyshire, adventurous holidaymakers go rambling, undeterred by the less than sunny weather. And at Shanklin on the Isle of Wight, "plenty of outdoor exercise and sport" is on the itinerary, including wheelbarrow and flowerpot races.
The Workers' Travel Association was founded in 1921 as a collaboration between trade unions, the Labour Party and the Co-operative Movement. It was run on a not-for-profit basis to provide affordable holidays abroad, and later in the UK, for working people and their families.
