Has He Hit Me?
The 'Two McNaughtons' roll out their popular music-hall routine
Overview
This film, made in August/September 1898 for the British Mutoscope & Biograph Company (newly established as independent from American Biograph), was probably shot near the Palace Theatre in London, while the performers - The Two McNaughtons - were engaged in the show. It shows the two McNaughtons rolling out a routine that won them fans on both sides of the Atlantic.
Despite the connection to the Palace, the film doesn't seem to have been shown there. Instead, it was aimed at wide distribution, with the fame of the performers and the knockabout scale of the action promising to both draw and please crowds, no matter the venue in which it was show.
